Second last
morning in Tri Jaya, went for Balinese breakfast and was presented with a new
dish!! Some kind of weird pink and green palm sugar jelly substance. Sadly, it had
a very weird texture and was not particularly tasty. I did my best to farm it
out to everyone, “here try this!”...
Tony and
Jess went diving at 6am off the beach, that way they would be back in time to
say goodbye to Francois who was leaving at 12pm. No diving for him today as
diving and flying within the space of 12 hours is a big no-no, in fact I think
something like 18 hours is recommended, if you do two dives.
At 12pm we
all said our goodbyes to Francois. Tough for him to be leaving with all of us
still staying on for another week. Still, it was nice to meet up at all, so we
shouldn’t complain about the duration.
Since it was
our last evening the guesthouse offered to do a BBQ for us, one where we would
help assist them in the cooking. Thankfully we were assigned easy tasks such as
grating coconut, and grinding up pastes. We made a broth-like fish soup made
with barracuda – spicy and tasty. Mahi-mahi was mixed with the coconut paste
and placed on skewers. We also grilled some barracuda fillets, assisting the
cooking by fanning the meat with cardboard flappers. Jess being a vegetarian
was warily looking at all the offerings wondering if they had forgotten about
her. A huge bowl of rice was made. Plus for Jess there was a ginormous bowl of
green beans and ginger. Lu was ogling the beans. Green beans are her favourite
apparently. She loves green beans.
